Tigers escape with the win

Brown drives in for his team's last shot, a layup on which he felt the need to bring the ball below his legs in a style reminiscent of the Harlem Globetrotters. It's no good.

The Tigers escape with the win, 44-42.

Leopards dangerously close.

Matt Betley drives all the way to the basket for a layup, hindered only by a Conway foul, his fifth. He sinks the charity shot.

The Leopards are within 2.

The Tigers pass the ball around to use up the possession, which ends in a poor shot by Gunn that bounces out.

Lafayette calls a timeout with 20.5 seconds left. They need two to tie, a three for the win.

Bringing sexy back

Schroeder takes a charge and lands on the floor as Abdullah is called for the offensive.

Schroeder gets stuck in traffic, and calls a time out.

The crowd gets treated to "I'm bringing sexy back..."

44-39 Princeton 1:10 remaining

Two minutes...

Brown spins for a fadeaway jumper, which looks like its going in, but Jamaal Hilliard wants to make sure so he tips it in, and Owings is called for the foul on the tip.

Scott is screaming goal tending, but Hilliard goes to the line and converts.

Both teams are in the double bonus, as Lafayette pulls with in four with just over two minutes remaining.

Media timeout

There's another media time out, there are four per half, and there are two kids racing to get dressed in a Lafayette uniform and make a layup. The first kid is good on his first attempt, which is no fun, the kids are supposed to be four years old and cuter so they have to try a few times before it goes in.

Less than four minutes to go

The Leopards have put on a press, but its no sweat to Schroeder, who works his way down the court against the pressure for the second time in a row. This time after he crosses half court he's called for the offensive with two players on him.

Owings goes down on the floor after getting pushed off the ball, so he'll go to the line. The first is off to the right, but the second swishes through.

43-36 Tigers with under 4 minutes to go.

Princeton in the double bonus

Schroeder had another backdoor opportunity, but Strittmatter, who's in for Conway, doesn't see him in time.

Strittmatter is on the line for 1 and 1, but he misses. Lafayette has 9 fouls already this half.

Andrew Brown for Lafayette makes a beautiful cut down the middle for a layup.

Schroeder on the line for 2 as the Tigers are in the double bonus. He swishes both-- this guy knows how to produce when it counts.

41-32 Tigers.

The worst game he's ever seen.

On defense Conway tips a loose ball to Schroeder, and the elderly gentlemen next to me complains for the 10th time that this is the worst game he's ever seen. He's in Lafayette red.

Gunn tallies an airball, and the crowd starts a feeble chant.

Lafayette's gym is more like a high school gym, its rather small and just has bleachers. The cheerleaders just did a short routine, which matched the feebleness of the air ball chant. There aren't more than 500 people here.

7:56 remaining, 39-30 Tigers.

Gunning from down town

Gunn finally hits from down town from the right corner.

The Tigers are pressing, and Coach Scott is screaming for an increase in defensive pressure.

Buffmire grabs a rebound after boxing out Schmidt, the Leopards' biggest player. Schmidt is pulled for letting a guard get in his face.

Owings good for three. Tigers 38-30. When they make threes, its all good.

Buffmire steals his way into the game

Buffmire's in for Gunn, and he just stole the ball from the Leopards. Owings takes advantage of the possession by driving in to the basket for a foul.

Gunn is quickly back in for Savage, who didn't get much of a chance to prove himself, all he tallied was a foul.

Owings hits the second foul shot after squandering the first attempt, the Tigers only got one free throw attempt in the first half and they missed it. That means they're 1 for 3 on the night. The hot 80% shooting they showed in the second half against Manhatten is visibly absent tonight.

The Leopards' Schmidt takes advantage of his size to power his way in for two.

32-20 Princeton

Conway with the hook

Another smooth hook for Conway off an out of bounds play.

Savage in for Koncz.

Lafayette's Harley is good from down town after Owings is short on a three.

Gunn attempts another three, but misses. He's 0-3 tonight.

Cummins hits a two for the Leopards, as they creep back into it after the run by the Tigers to open the second half.

Princeton still leads 31-28.

Schroeder so smooth

This is my first glimpse of Schroeder in action, but he’s confident on the court running the point and with the offense.

Owings finds Schroeder running baseline for a backdoor pass, and Schroeder pump fakes and lays it in for his first score of the night, and the Tigers third two point basket.

After a successful trey, the Tigers go into the first media time out up 29-22.

Tigers take the lead

To open the half its Owings, Conway, Koncz, Schroeder and Gunn.

Conway works around the basket to a beautiful hook shot.

On the next posession they work it around to give Koncz another 3 point attempt, which he swishes from NBA range.

Tigers 24-22

Nothing but threes, but not enough net

At the half Koncz leads all scorers with 9 points, all off treys, but no other Tiger has more than 3 points. Koncz and Schroeder are the only Tigers to play all 20 minutes.

Buffmire and Schroeder each shot one point within the three point line, and Conway leads the 2 point attempts going 1 for 4. Those 6 shots are the only ones the Tigers have attempted that were not treys. They're 33% for the field on the half, not a surprise given all they've taken is from long range.

If the plan is to live and die by the three, the Tigers barely have their heads above water tonight.

22-19 Lafayette

Strittmatter just hit a beautiful three from the top of the key to bring the Tigers within 1.

But a Tiger foul gives Lafayette's Bilal Abdullah a 1 and 1, which he takes full advantage of.

Halftime: 22-19 Lafayette.

Tigers trail as we near the end of the first

So traffic related difficulties caused a late arrival to the Lafayette basketball game, but from now on I’ll be bringing you the action live from Easton, Pa. as the Tigers take on Lafayette. With 1:48 remaining in the first the Tigers trail 20-14.
